What is Your Dream?
First you need to discover what your goals are. Several people that I have a discussion with about dreams and goals in life, do not have any other goals than creating a secure and mediocre lifestyle with a steady job and income. If this is what they really wish for I do not know. Perhaps that is what truly will make them happy, though I believe that it is really essential for people to allow themselves to dream big and reach new goals. When we allow ourselves to dream we are filled with so much passion and enthusiasm that we get a great craving to really live our lives to its fullest. It creates a feeling of meaning and sense. And when we achieve some of our goals and dreams, we get to a point of great satisfaction and happiness. We need to grow to feel joyful and fulfilled.
Afraid of Dreaming?
What a huge of amount of people is frightened of, is feeling disappointed and not to succeed. We think, that if they do not any big dreams and goals, then they will not be disappointed when they don’t reach the goals. So before we even begin to plan our dream, we end the project so that we do not have to feel all the discouraging and embarrassing feelings of being a failure. This is able to keep us from ever accomplishing anything big, since the first and most crucial thing you need to be able to succeed, is to believe. You need to completely believe in your dreams and believe that they are possible to make real… even for you. But it takes guts to allow yourself to dream, as we often take failure very personal. But failure allow us to learn and we just have to find another way to succeed.
Make a List of Your Goals
So when you have decided that you want to start working on some of your goals you first have to make your personal list of all the many things you would like to achieve. Your goals do not only have to be these big things such as earning a lot of money, getting your dream house, travel the world, etc. Include everything that comes to your mind. So if you have a personal goal like to quit smoking, learn to sing, sew a piece of clothing, paint a picture, etc, get them all down on your list. Keep in mind that there is not only one way to be happy. Everyone has different ideas of what they need and one really have to listen to ones inner voice of what will bring them true contentment.
Now go through your list and pick one or two to start working with. It is completely irrelevant if goals you want to work with are big or small, but it is important that they are specific. So lets say you want to earn more money, write down exactly how much you want.
Next to the goals you have selected you will write down the different actions you should take to get there. So if your goal is to lose weight, what will you have to do. Well, you will of course need to work out regularly and make a diet plan. You might also need a way to motivate yourself, and so you could join a group or get a fitness instructor to help you. You know what can motivate you, so write down all the things you think would help.
When figuring out what goals you have and the different steps you need to take to achieve them write a deadline for every action-step. So if your action-step is to work out and go to the fitness center, write down the date for when you have decided to start this and how many days you must work out, even write down the specific days, you want to exercise. Giving yourself a deadline can ensure you to actually follow through and achieve your personal goals.
