Question by Sam’s DAD: Why is exercise equipment like the gazelle only made for light heavy wieghts.?
Most non commercial excercise equipment have a weight capacity of 350 pounds , I know few of people that are up to 500 pounds that can still move around freely , but just can’t use things like the gazelle , because of the low weight capacity these machines have . Why don’t they have higher weight rateing’s ?

Well, I assume it’s because they would need stronger and more expensive materials to build them. Then they couldn’t sell them for cheap, which is pretty much a requirement for such equipment fads and impulse buys. From the viewpoint of the company, the percentage of people that are over 350 lbs that would buy their product is quite low, probably less than 1% of their customers. At that point most people would not be helped by something like the gazelle.
