How do companies advertise sales positions as $300K+ income jobs?

Question by B Singer: How do companies advertise sales positions as 0K+ income jobs?
Graduating with a BS in Finance, I’ve been looking around for a job in the Finance sector. I’ve tried to avoid job sites since only about 3% of jobs are derived from them (in comparison to the amount of work you put into it), but I’ve noticed a common trend on them:

“Position Details
– Financial Sales Rep
– $ 25K – $ 50K first year net income part time (compatible with a full time job)
– OR $ 50K to $ 200K full time
– Professional Training – live, conference call and online
– Optional Qualified Lead Program – No cold calling or prospecting
– Generate six figure long term residual income – $ 300K on up”

I don’t get it, obviously these figures aren’t very accurate…if you could make 300K doing a job that doesn’t even necessarily require a college education, why would finance experts become analysts, controllers, CFOs, etc? So obviously it’s generally bogus, but my two questions are:

1. What would a realistic income figure be for a financial sales representative who puts in your typical 8 hours a day work effort?
2. How are companies allowed to openly and blatantly lie about the outlook of the positions they are hiring for?

I think its the fact that you are “able” to generate that much profit from sales but the chance of that is slim. So technically theyre not lying. Also 6 figure income attracts prospects and create awareness for the company.
