Any suggestions?
……dogs are natural meat eaters.. huh???
….so are humans? But that doesn’t make our goals any less important.

he’s not a hippie, ur more likley getting a rabbit eat a buffalo
I think you should only feed him dog meat. Then he’s no longer part of the problem, but part of the solution. The doggy Final Solution.
Good luck with that JJ. Let me know how it all turns out LOL.
get him to read a book on it!!!
Trust me your dog does NOT want to be a vegetarian, dogs are carnivores they need meat, their bodies are designed to digest meat not grains. You will shut your dogs liver down if he is fed nothing but grains.
Put him on a proper diet with meat, trust me your dog does not have goals he just wants food, show your support by getting him on a meat diet and by skipping the grains.
Get a rabbit as a pet instead of a dog.
How could he have goals of being a Vegetarian when he is carnivorous? Dogs need meat, they were not meant to be Vegetarian’s.
I have seen vegan dog foods at the trendy pet stores, also share your salad with him and your veggies from your plate he will think he is getting special treatment cause he is getting what your eating. You will know when he has totaly gone vegan when he refuses to lift his leg on a tree.
“high hopes of his goals”?
Oh good God I’ve read it all now! LOL
I’m sorry but this has to be the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.
Dogs are carnivores. So if you are not pulling our legs, then you’re simply projecting your desires onto your dog. Your dog does NOT wish to become a vegetarian and doing that to him would harm his health -!-
Dogs are naturally carnivorous!! You should never try to make them a full on vegetarian!!!! Maybe omnivorous, but I really don’t see this working out well… health wise. Maybe you should try a raw diet, I bet his hopes are higher for achieving a raw diet! haha
Also remember that if you intend on doing this for sure, and don’t care about his health. try to stay away from grains and such, as they aren’t good for him how you think they would be! Also keep him on a doggy multi-vitamin to try to maintain his full health!!
Its your goal for your dog to be a vegetarian, not his. If you choose not to eat meat, thats fine, but dogs needs meat.
Well, first I would say, all the dogs I’ve spoken too love carrots. So thats a start!
Dogs are by their nature carnivores. To expect a dog to be a vegetarian is ridiculous and demonstrates that the owner has no idea where the dog stops and the owner begins. Your dog’s goals should be more practical, like: don’t pee in the house. Don’t sit on the sofa. Don’t shed on visitors dressed in black. That sort of thing.
I suppose he told you this aswell did he? Dogs love meat. Specially fresh chicken! Stop putting human emotions and feelings onto a dog. Sorry to break this to you, but a dog is a dog, and a human is a human. Please don’t humanise them, they don’t really enjoy it.
well it’s a dog that has no reason or thought but Just to eat what’s good
Humans and dogs have very different digestive systems. Dogs have a much shorter gut. They process foods differently. Specifically:
–Humans flourish on a diet that is high in complex carbohydrates, fruits, and low on meat and fat. That kind of diet produces a lean, healthy human with high energy, reduced risk of cancer or heart disease. Humans that eat diets high in fats and meat end up fat, sluggish, low energy, and a range of health issues.
–Dogs that eat diets low on fat end up with lower energy and a higher risk of injury plus slower recovery time (research done on field competition and canine sports) and have dryer coats that shed more. Dogs that eat diets high in carbohydrates end up fat, sluggish, produce larger turds. Dogs that eat diets of 13% or less protein DIE of malnutrition. In the wild, most canines eat diets of nearly 100% protein.
There are a range of foods that are nutritious to humans (grapes, onions, garlic, dairy, dark chocolate is an anti-oxident) that are either harmful or even fatal to dogs. The two biggest allergens (and also foods with almost no nutritional values for dogs) are corn and grains (especially wheat). Most fruits have little nutritional value to dogs. For instance, humans get scurvy if we don’t eat enough vitamin-C (especially citric fruits) while dogs can’t get scurvy.
My understanding is that the single biggest reason for the difference in diet between humans and dogs is that they have a shorter gut. For instance, two great foods for overweight dogs are string beans and pumpkin–because they “fill” the dog but the pooch is unable to really digest anything from the food (it all comes right back out). They’re simply unable to process most of the value of complex carbohydrates like vegetables and grains. Plus fat seems to have much more nutritional value for dogs (in terms of recovery, preventing injury and alertness).
So, that means….
–to make your dog a vegetarian is to kill him. Research has shown that protein levels of 13% or less for a dog are fatal. That is why even dogs suffering from chronic renal failure are still fed protein levels as high as 17-20%.
–I respect your personal values and recognize the health value of a vegan or vegetarian diet for humans. But just because it’s true for humans doesn’t make it so for canines.
quorn!!!!!!!!!!
just feed it waldorfs
No, we are omnivores. We can replace meat with other things with planning. It isn’t easy, but it is our choice and thanks to the miracles of shipping you can make this decision. We do need meat, any replacement proteins are just that, REPLACEMENTS.
THere does seem to be some debate about dogs being omnivores, but they aren’t quiet like us. Dogs are non-obligate carnivores- they can have some veggies (more than cats) but they do best with meat. The vegetarian diet is possible to do, but I see no point in forcing it on him if he hand;es meat just fine.
These are YOUR goals, he just want to be healthy and eat yummy food. Please just let him be a dog and eat meat like he is supposed to!
Just give him all the Cat-Sh!t he can eat…;)
Well, maybe you could get him on those soybean burger things.
